  Volunteer with Roshni

Volunteering at Roshni Sheffield >

Roshni services are greatly enhanced through the vital contribution from volunteers. If you are interested in finding out more about volunteering with Roshni, we would love to hear from you.

Currently we have the following volunteering opportunities available:

Community Health Champions
Health Champions are volunteers committed to improving the health of their local community.  You need to be committed and reliable and want to help people. You do not need to know a lot about the respective areas but you must have a willingness to learn.  In return you will be offered a wide range of training, some of which is accredited, and will develop new skills which will enhance your CV and future job prospects.

Roshni are currently recruiting Pregnancy and Early Years (PEY) Health Champions and Mental Health Support Champions.  You will be part of a large project wihich is supported by a number of Sheffield organisations, including the local NHS and Sheffield City Council.

Pregnancy and Early Years (PEY) Health Champions
PEY Health Champions will help to improve the health and well-being of families during pregnancy and the first 2 years of infancy, working primarily in Sheffield's least healthy communities.  You will support and empower people to eat healthily, be active and improve their mental well-being. Your role will also involve signposting women onto specialist services such as breastfeeding and stop-smoking support as appropriate.  You will have the opportunity to work alongside other professionals and develop new skills.

The role requires a committment to undertake 100 hours a week.

Mental Health Support Champions
Mental Health Support Health Champions are volunteers whose role is to support people to improve their mental well being through raising awareness of mental health issues and ways to manage good mental health.

You don't need to know a lot about mental health but you need to be good at listening to people and want to help them solve their problems.  If you are keen to learn new skills and are able to commit to volunteering for around 8 hours a month for 6/7 months as well as taking part in training then get in touch.  There is accredited training which will look good on your CV and could open doors for further opportunities.

If you are interested please get in touch with Roshni.

You can also apply by emailing developmentworker@roshnisheffield.org.uk

Volunteer Advocacy Worker
This is a great opportunity to be part of our supportive and friendly team to gain useful new skills and be part of a service that’s a life line for Asian women in crisis/difficult situations.

Your work will involve face to face interviews with the clients, finding out and passing on relevant information, reading, explaining and writing letters, making phone calls and providing empathy and understanding.

We are looking for:
Female volunteers, who are fluent in English and bi-lingual in one of the following languages: Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi or Bengali.

Able to spare a minimum of 3 hours a week

Wishing to make a difference and help others

You will gain free training to carry out your role, valuable work experience and new skills to help you into paid work and an opportunity to put something back into the community.

Our process
Volunteers are offered a 2 week taster period, where they get a chance to observe client interviews, as well as making a start on a self study training pack. After the initial 2 weeks, the project coordinator and the volunteer meet to review the volunteer’s experience so far. If both are happy to continue, the volunteer is formally welcomed into the team and completes a set of training materials as well as continuing to observe further client interviews. After the training is completed, volunteers gradually begin to take on one to one advocacy work with clients, with support from the project coordinator and the rest of the advocacy team.

If you are interested, please get in touch with the Advocacy Project Coordinator either by phoning Roshni or emailing her directly on advocacycoordinator2@roshnisheffield.org.uk
